CPF retirement check: will I reach the Full Retirement Sum by 55?

For members turning 55 in 2026, the Basic Retirement Sum is S$110,200, the Full Retirement Sum S$220,400 and the Enhanced Retirement Sum S$440,800, giving CPF LIFE payouts of roughly S$950, S$1,780 and S$3,440 a month from 65. This tool projects your own accounts to 55 and compares them.

How it works

  1. Contributions. Up to 55, 37% of salary (up to the S$8,000 monthly ceiling) goes into CPF. The share for each account changes with age: for example, 23% to the Ordinary Account and 6% to the Special Account at 35 and below.
  2. Interest. The Ordinary Account earns 2.5% a year and the Special Account 4%. Extra interest of up to 1% on the first S$60,000 is left out, so real balances will be a little higher.
  3. Housing. Ordinary Account money used for your home loan is taken off each month.
  4. At 55. Your Retirement Account is formed from your Special Account, then your Ordinary Account, up to the Full Retirement Sum (or the Basic Retirement Sum with a property pledge).
  5. Future sums. Retirement sums rise each year. We assume 3.5% a year for later years, so the figures for someone turning 55 in, say, 2046 are higher than today’s.
  6. CPF LIFE. The payout is a rough estimate scaled from CPF’s published examples. Use CPF’s own CPF LIFE Estimator for a personal figure.

Worked example

A 35-year-old earns S$6,000 a month, has S$60,000 in the Ordinary Account and S$30,000 in the Special Account, and uses S$1,200 of OA a month for the home loan.

Common questions

What happens to my Special Account at 55?

Since January 2025, the Special Account is closed at 55. Its savings move to the Retirement Account up to the Full Retirement Sum; any balance above that goes to the Ordinary Account.

Do I need the Full Retirement Sum?

No. If you own a property with a lease that lasts to at least 95, you can pledge it and set aside only the Basic Retirement Sum. Your monthly payout will be lower.

Can I top up to the Enhanced Retirement Sum?

Yes, you can top up your Retirement Account in cash or by transfer up to the Enhanced Retirement Sum (S$440,800 in 2026) for a higher payout.

Is this my exact CPF LIFE payout?

No. It is a rough estimate. CPF’s planning tools use your actual balances, gender and plan choice.
