Brightness and the Four Transformations

A star’s effect depends on its brightness in each palace, from bright (庙旺) to dim (陷), and on the Four Transformations (四化) set by your birth-year stem: Lu (abundance), Quan (authority), Ke (recognition) and Ji (obstacles). A star with Hua Lu in your Career palace reads very differently from the same star with Hua Ji.

Putting it together

Read a star by its palace, its brightness, the minor stars beside it and its opposite palace. See the 12 palaces for what each box covers, then open your own chart to see where your stars fall.

Common questions

Is having Zi Wei in the Life palace lucky?

It suggests dignity and leadership, but its effect depends on brightness, the stars around it and the Four Transformations. No star is simply good or bad.

What are the Four Transformations?

Hua Lu, Hua Quan, Hua Ke and Hua Ji: four changes applied to stars according to your birth-year stem, showing ease, authority, recognition and obstacles.
